Cohousing
Heading
Cohousing is an intentional, self-governing community living arrangement where residents occupy private homes, often clustered around shared spaces. Cohousing combines individual living units with communal facilities such as a common house, shared outdoor areas, and collective resources. Residents collaboratively plan and manage community activities and co-financed shared spaces while maintaining their personal incomes and private lives. The legal structure typically involves a homeowner association or housing cooperative, sometimes utilising community land trusts. Cohousing emphasises social interaction through regular shared meals, meetings, and community work days, as well as informal gatherings and resource sharing. This model facilitates neighbourly cooperation, offering social, practical, economic, and environmental benefits. The democratic nature of cohousing often inspires residents to become more engaged in broader civic affairs, extending the community-minded ethos beyond the immediate living environment.
